Hopes for Children at North Valley Friends Church

As adopted by the Christian Education Committee, July 2003

  • Develop a personal relationship with Christ.

  • Understand the Bible.
  • Connect and build relationships with nurturing adults, other than their parents.
  • Build community with their peers and others in the larger NVFC community.
  • Build a lifestyle of involvement in church, the community, service and ministry.

Sunday Morning Children’s Programs

Sunday School (9:30-10:30 AM)

Nursery: The nursery is staffed with one leader during the Sunday School hour for infants and children up to age 2.

2year old-Kindergarten class: In room 101, children aged two through kindergarten gather for a time of Bible instruction, crafts and worship.

1st-5th Grade class: Grade school children meet in room 102 for Bible instruction, worship and fellowship. During the fall, the children are learning about the special place that God’s Word has in our lives.

Children’s Worship (approximately 11:00-12:00)

Children gather with their parents in the sanctuary for the beginning of worship at 10:45. They are then released to go to their own age-focused worship gatherings.

Nursery: The nursery is staffed with two adult leaders during the entire worship service for infants and children up to age two.

2-3 year old worship: Children two and three years old gather in the preschool classrooms (Room 101) for a time of worship that includes Bible stories, singing, prayer, crafts/activities, and a small snack.

Kid’s Worship (Blue Room 201, East Wing): Children four years old through Kindergarten gather in this room for intentional worship. A teacher welcomes them and facilitates their ready transition to the worship circle in an upstairs classroom. The children are then met by the storyteller. In the worship circle the children hear a story from the Bible, wonder together about that story, and pray. The children also have time each week to listen to what Christ may be speaking to them in a quiet work time. This fall and spring, children will be learning sacred stories from the Old Testament, stories of Advent, and the life and parables of Jesus.

Kid’s Worship (Yellow Room 202, East Wing): Children in first through third grade gather in this room for intentional worship. Kid’s Worship (Upstairs Youth Room 205, Education Wing: Fourth and fifth grade children worship as a group, hearing Bible stories and responding with prayer, reading and writing and hands-on activities.

Middle School: Sunday School (Library – Rm 204), Youth Group Wednesday Night – In Fall 2007 - group meets at Newberg Friends Church – van leaves North Valley at 6:15 pm and returns at 8:15 pm)

High School: Sunday School (Youth Room 205), Youth Group Monday Night (Youth Room 205 ), Wednesday night small group – Youth Room 205
